A relaxed 65km led gravel ride along the Ridgeway, following chalk paths and tracks across the open downland of the Wessex Downs National Landscape, with big views and superb riding throughout.
Pace and experience: The ride is relaxed, with an average moving speed of around 16–18km/h. All riders should have experience riding off-road trails and be comfortable on loose and uneven chalk surfaces, which can be rutted and slippery when wet.
Riding independently: The ride is led, but every rider must download the route to their GPS device or phone before the day. Some riders may want to go ahead at a faster pace or drop back and take it easier. That’s fine, but you’ll need to be able to navigate and look after yourself if you do.
Bring: A gravel or mountain bike in good working order, tubeless repair kit or spare tubes, a pump, enough food and water for the day (supplies on the Ridgeway are limited), and clothing for changeable weather on exposed high ground.
Meet: The Crown and Horns, East Ilsey, Berkshire
