0km Hadrian's Cycleway - Ravenglass
Ravenglass
Day 1
The real pleasure of this route is how it unwinds slowly, how it asks you to spend time exploring rather than ‘just’ riding. So, rather than jumping on your bike on arriving at Ravenglass (after at least half a day of train travel from your home), why not check into the Inn at Ravenglass with its huge bedrooms and picture windows across the Esk estuary, have some lunch before taking the afternoon steam train into the heart of the Lake District National Park. There are plenty of good estuary walks and the remains of the Roman fort to explore should the train not be running.
If the train is not running (weekends only in winter) or if you are pressed for time, click below onto Day 2 and head up the coast. If you don’t make it to Silloth before dark, there is a good selection of accommodation in Whitehaven.
Every route on this website has been carefully researched as well as ridden. However situations on the ground can change quickly. If you know of changes to this route, or cafes, pubs and the like which you think other cyclists need to know about, feel free to share your thoughts below.
